This blog, from now on, will be an archive of my daily comics from 2009-2010. Scott would call it another ruins of the internet. Just another American ghost town.
A quick summary of what you'll find in this collection of that year: wasted time, effort, false truths, love, heartbreak, drunks, weird relationships with women, constant status anxiety, hope, dreams, repetitive stress reaction patterns learned subconciously in childhood, unwillingless to let go. I could go on and on.
The experiment didn't exactly become what I wanted it to. Nor did I gain any real crazy awesome drawing skills. Except, now, I can draw my cartoon face in a flash... The autobio-comic wasn't always that funny. And it wasn't always dripping with profound meaning. And I censored myself a ton.
But, as a whole "work" it comes out as something disgustingly beautiful. Or pretty-ugly. That earnest effort shines. My desire to connect with you or the whole wide world there.
So, NOW, I started up a comic memoir for this year (2011-2012) and will be posting it over on my tumblr.
I'll also have a website for my new comics I'm working on. I don't have the address yet but it'll be http://www.argel.us/ ...at some point that link will work.
Please check out the comics of my lovely, handsome and talented dear friend as well:
Scott Longo's old New Feelings, new New Feelings, and his website: slongo (under construction).
Thank you for poking around. :)

JAN 6 / !!!!!!!!

Tra la la! It's over! 365 days later. Done.
When I first started the diary comic I told Scott that there would be no more than 2 panels of my face in a day's comic (or something close to that). And that it would be funny. I definitely failed at the first part. And I found out it's hard to make a joke every day when you're not feeling it.
I'm lost for words on how I feel about the whole thing.
McSweeney's published a prototype newspaper called "Panorama" in December. In it there was an article about the Camino del Santiago. It is a road in France/Spain that Christians used for pilgrimage to be forgiven their sins. In the article it recounts every day on the Camino from the perspective of two friends. While they get blisters and infections on the walk they lose sight on why they are doing this epic walk. Then they realize they never had a reason to do it in the first place. They were not doing it for repentance. Really, all they wanted was to go for a nice stroll and to clear their heads so they could be more creative.
Instead, of course, they went through tons of suffering in vain. And as they, themselves, wrote--didn't get much of anything out of it except dirty clothes and fucked up feet.
What I am trying to express is the same thing. It was nice to know I could do this everyday. And that drawing sloppy can still look somehow appealing. But, it is only a journal with doodles. And it was a pain in the ass.
I am excited for Scott's daily comic finishing up. He has put more effort into the approach/creation than I did. And his work is worth revisiting several times.
As for this blog: it's still in the air. Do I start a new one or do I add on to this one and change the layout? Only time will show/tell us!
Thanks for reading,
Argel

DEC 27/28

I am caught up with scanning once again! There are only nine days more of these daily comics. I am very excited about not drawing my everyday life. I have a lot to say about this whole project--but, I will save it for the last blog entry.
Currently I am drawing these in a third journal. It was a journal from high school that I was meant to write songs in. The pages with songs had been ripped out a long time ago. Probably because the songs were terrible. Tre embarrasing.
I did not realize that the journal was bigger than the last two--so my scanner cut off the dates of each daily. No big deal. And, as I am sure you noticed, I have decided to finish my dailies using brown pens. I thought it would be fitting with the whole brown blog thing.
Right now, I am working on the Heart Attack Jack finale (issues six and seven). So, hopefully there will be new things to give my friends next year. Thanks for reading!
